Immerse yourself in Indigenous culture. Indigenous culture thrives throughout the territory of the Côte-Nord thanks to the various communities that inhabit it. There are 8 Innu communities, the majority of which are located near the river, and 1 Naskapi community located near Schefferville.

During your stay, plan a few stops to delve into Indigenous culture and soak up a rich and varied heritage. Here are some ways to do it:

Through Innu craftmanship

Purchasing Indigenous crafts is a precious way to support cultural traditions and local communities while adding an authentic and unique touch to your home.

Through Indigenous festivals and events

Festivals and events are excellent ways to engage with Indigenous culture and discover local artists.

Through museums and interpretation centers

Learn some of the history of Indigenous peoples by visiting a museum or interpretation center in the region.

Through nature experiences

Discover the Nitassinan (traditional territory) of local communities and its riches by experiencing nature. Whale watching cruises, stays in outfitters, and outdoor activities are some examples of experiences offered by Innu businesses.

Of course, there are many other ways to immerse yourself in the culture of different Indigenous communities. For example, it is possible to learn the languages specific to each of them through various tools available on the Tshakapesh Institute website.
