In collaboration with the Véloroute des Baleines Corporation, here is a suggested itinerary for discovery lovers and cycling enthusiasts alike!

DAY 1 

Tadoussac

 

 

Tadoussac: Where it all begins


Nestled between the St. Lawrence River and the Saguenay Fjord, Tadoussac is more than just a gateway — it's a magical starting point for your Côte-Nord adventure. As the first stop along the Whale Route Bike Trail, this iconic village charms visitors with its maritime vibe, rich history, and breathtaking views of one of Québec's most stunning landscapes. Whether you're here to spot whales, relax on the beach, or wander through its lively streets, Tadoussac sets the tone for a journey filled with natural beauty and coastal charm.

 

Start your adventure with a whale-watching excursion by zodiac with local cruise operators. This outing on the water will instantly immerse you in the majestic world of the St. Lawrence River, where minke whales and belugas glide along the cliffs of the fjord. DAY 2

Tadoussac to Forestville (122 km)

This second day of the Véloroute des Baleines takes you through the beautiful Haute-Côte-Nord, a magnificent part of the region! Leaving Tadoussac, the road winds through forests, rocky headlands, and breathtaking viewpoints over the St. Lawrence River. With each pedal stroke, you get closer to Forestville, while enjoying a grand natural spectacle. It's an invitation to slow down, breathe in the salty air, and fully embrace the freedom of cycling through the North Shore.

 

 

On the way to Forestville, don't miss these must-see stops:

Cap-de-Bon-Désir (Les Bergeronnes)
An exceptional natural stop where you can observe whales from the shore! The Cap-de-Bon-Désir interpretation site is one of the best places to admire these marine giants while learning about the richness of the North Shore's coastline.

Café Kiboikoi (Les Escoumins)
A must-stop for a tasty break! This charming local café-boutique offers a comforting menu, handmade products, and a warm atmosphere, perfect for relaxing between stretches of road.

Parc de la rivière Sault-au-Mouton
A small detour worth taking: this peaceful park hides an impressive waterfall deep in nature. It's the perfect place for a picnic or simply to immerse yourself in the wild beauty of the region.

This third day immerses you in the heart of the North Shore's diversity. Leaving Forestville, the road takes you through a series of coastal landscapes, dotted with welcoming villages, breathtaking views of the river, and unexpected natural treasures. Along the way, you'll have the chance to discover the Innu culture of Pessamit, stroll along the Ragueneau pier, or marvel at the ecological richness of the Pointe-aux-Outardes Nature Park. A revitalizing stop where each moment tells a story, and where your arrival in Baie-Comeau promises comfort, great food... and a view of the sea.

 

 

 

On the road, take the time to discover:

Pessamit Tourism Center
Make a stop at the interpretation center of the Innu community of Pessamit to learn more about the culture, traditions, and history of this people who have been rooted in the territory for millennia. A wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the region's Indigenous richness.

Ragueneau Pier
A peaceful and photogenic spot to stop, contemplate the river, and breathe in the salty air. There are also picnic facilities, perfect for relaxing or simply enjoying the view.

Pointe-aux-Outardes Nature Park
A must-see detour before reaching Baie-Comeau! This biodiversity gem is home to beaches, marshes, dunes, and forests, as well as an impressive variety of birds. Well-maintained trails allow you to explore this exceptional site at a leisurely pace.

 

Once you arrive in Baie-Comeau, you'll find a wide range of restaurants, from local cuisine to world flavors, perfect for recharging your batteries after a long day of cycling.

DAY 4

Baie-Comeau to Baie-Trinité (113 km)

Between sky, sea, and forest, this stretch of the Véloroute des Baleines takes you to a place where nature reigns supreme. The road, wilder and more isolated, carves a path through grand landscapes where the ocean breeze accompanies each pedal stroke. Here, you ride for the simple joy of movement, for the sense of freedom that only cycling provides. The miles pass by to the rhythm of cliffs, secret coves, and the constant murmur of the river. It's a day to push your limits, but above all, to reconnect — with yourself, with nature, and with the raw beauty of the North Shore.

 

 

On the road, don't miss these memorable stops:

Village Forestier d'Antan (Franquelin)
Dive into the history of the first forestry camps with a visit to this recreated site that transports you to the world of lumberjacks in the early 20th century. A great history lesson in the heart of nature, just off the road.

Birds of Prey Interpretation Center (Longue-Rive)

Two options are available to you...

 

After several days pedaling along the river and the North Shore landscapes, two options are available to continue the adventure.

 

OPTION 1: The more daring will choose to ride back on the road by bike, continuing their journey in reverse, enriched by the memories they've collected.

 

OPTION 2: For those who wish to explore more of the North Shore in a different way, a vehicle transport service is available (for a fee), allowing you to continue your journey on four wheels… without taking your eyes off the horizon.
